2. Download Clients Setup
eDonkey is the engine behind the best tool to download the latest files over the internet.
However there are better front-ends to use than that of eDonkey's:
a. OverNet Client - a Peer to Peer (ie. serverless) version - highly recommended
b. eMule Client - requires a server & is a better client than the original donkey
Get & install both of them!
Contrary to popular belief you can (& in
my opinion should) run both eMule & Overnet
Do this by using different port #'s for Overnet from default (or for eMule) to avoid a clash
If your using a Hardware Firewall (Recommended) be sure to open these ports up!
If there is an option to stop PING connections into your system - enable it!
You must get an eDonkey "ID" over 30 billion to truly be a successful downloader.
NOTE: Email your colleagues what's presently in your download QUEUE to save on valuable bandwidth!
(ps. if you're still a KAZAA-fan, ensure you use KAZAA-Lite and not the public version!)

4. Scheduling your downloads for OFF-PEAK (Midnight to 7AM Daily)
For Win2K; also applicable WinNT4/WinXP/WIN.NET(2003), server/workstation...
Assumes both eMule and OverNet are installed and operational.
From a CMD prompt, type the following one at a time:
at 00:01 /interactive /every:m,t,w,th,f,s,su c:\progra~1\emule\emule.exe
at 00:02 /interactive /every:m,t,w,th,f,s,su c:\progra~1\overnet\overnet.exe
at 07:01 /interactive /every:m,t,w,th,f,s,su c:\downloads\cls-mule.bat
at 07:02 /interactive /every:m,t,w,th,f,s,su c:\downloads\cls-onet.bat
NOTES: Contents of type CLS-MULE.BAT file (one-line only) =
c:\downloads\closeapp eMule
where CloseApp.EXE is a very useful dos-based program to close an app by title,
eg. with "eMule" in it, or ditto with "OverNet" in it, as specified in the parameter.
Ensure OverNet > General Options > [ ] Close to System Tray is NOT selected, &
Ensure eMule > Preferences > General > [ ] Prompt on Exit is also NOT selected!
HINT: set your uploads to 3 or 4 (kbytes/sec) for both apps, to not flood your uplink!
THERE IS ALSO A SCHEDULER (Tools > Schedule) IN THE FLASHFXP FTP-CLIENT, IF REQUIRED!
5. Running your secure FTP Server - Recommendation
a. Raiden - FTP Server software for secure back-end ftp deamon service
Notes: be sure to read the "setting up IP" info, as recommend using MiniDNS for IP mapping
Also be sure to "update" to latest version immediately after installation & frequently there-after!
Obvious: Use a UNIQUE (not-public) 5-digit port-number for both authentication (TLS-secured) & data-transfers, as well as investigate all other tweaks & optimisations possible with this server software.
b. MiniDNS.Net for free DNS mapping your Dynamic IP
Requires "free" registration - go for it!
c. DynSite for automatically updating/managing your IP address mapping
d. FlashFXP - Client FTP software for secure front-end ftp connections!
For Raiden & FlashFXP, be sure to get a full "registered" version of these apps!!
